Abstract

Examples are presented here on how severalschools are meeting the challenges of integrating technicalinnovation and design into the engineering and engineeringtechnology curriculum. Georgia Southern University isdeveloping a compact instrument (permeameter) that willmeasure the coefficient of permeability of soil based on thewater content and dry-unit weight of the soil. At WentworthInstitute of Technology an application has been developedwhere multiple Melexis MLX90614 infrared temperaturesensors are transformed into wireless sensors via a hybridconnectionto a Texas Instrument ezMSP430-rf2500microprocessor. And at Yeditepe University in Turkey andTexas A&M University in the United States the authorsexplore the issues of design of business process managementsystems from a cognitive systems perspective.Index Terms  ⎯ clay liners, dry unit weight, hydraulicconductivity, permeability, water content, wireless, curriculum, microprocessor, serial communication, SMBus,sensors, smart sensors, cognitive system design, businessprocess management.
