TEACHING & RESEARCHING: TEACHING YOUNG STUDENTS HOW TO MAKE RESAERCH @FEUP

Abstract

In the presentation it will be consider some ofthe author teaching/learning/research activity outcomes atthe Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto(FEUP), Portugal, since the she became its member ineighties and, particularly, along the present decade, withincourses or extra-curricular student/teacher/researcher ineither formal or informal multidisciplinary project basedlearning methodologies. The results from these experienceshave been a unique opportunity for the author and gave tothe students’ also important contribution for their deeperknowledge by practicing the problem analysis, decision andresolution and training, including team work and leadershipskills. This activity is also related with the author interests atthe Unit of System Integration and Process Automation(UISPA) from the Institute of Mechanical Engineering(IDMEC-Polo FEUP). In this context the author joinedintensively the two complementary tasks: teaching andR&D.Index Terms  ⎯ Project based learning, teaching andresearching,engaging students in R&D.
