MRI analysis for articulatory studies in Engineering and Philology Degrees using DICOMPAS Tool
Abstract
This work has been developed for engineeringstudies related with signal processing algorithms and forphilology studies about the articulatory model of alanguage. By this work a study for the modelisation of thecorrect articulation of phonemes is presented, made throughthe treatment of MRI 2D images in the midsagittal plane. Asoftware system was developed; implementing mathematicalalgorithms that allow the calculation of objective measuresof articulatory model parameters obtained throughtreatment of images, and was used by researchers inlinguists, phonetics and engineering. Engineering studentscan use image processing, statistic and software engineertechniques and even provide to the tool new screeningalgorithms for calculation of parameters, and the students oflinguistics can make the scientific analysis of thecharacteristics of the language they are studying. Theauthors (in alphabetical order) are a multidisciplinary teamconsisting of researchers and professors.
