Abstract

Connections, welded or bolted, represent one ofthe most principal steps in a steel structure project. It has asignificant importance in the cost of the structure and may toinfluence the choice of construction system and compose theesthetics of structures. Traditionally in our university, in afirst course of Steel Structures, are taught the conceptualaspects of steel buildings, history, the steelmaking process,types of actions, mechanical properties, structural systems,procedures to design and to verify members under traction ,compression, bending, shear and localized loads.. The goalis to make a wide and didactic presentation of connectionsin order to be presented at the beginning of the course ofSteel Structures. This approach is in the line of action of theengineering schools who are innovating with theimplementation of the curriculum reversed, representing aneducational paradigm change.Index Terms ⎯ Didactic approach, bolted connection,welded connection, steel structures.
