Abstract

One of the current trends of the industry isevolving and optimizing the structures and the actuatingsystem of conventional machine-tools for obtaining morespeed, with low noise and waste generation. Conventionalpresses (mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic) generally notonly presents limitations on the flexibility on the actuatingspeed adjustment but it is also attached to the noisegenerated during the activation of the hydraulic andmechanical systems. For optimizing some of thecharacteristics of conventional presses, an innovativeelectromagnetic impulse press was developed, whichconverts magnetic field generated energy in to a linearmovement, typical for conventional tools actuation. Byresourcing to optimizing experiments, it was possible todemonstrate that the new impulse system can reproduce agreat range of velocities with high value of energy.Index Terms ⎯ Machine-tools, Manufacturing processes,Electromagnetism.
