VIRTUALIZAÇÃO, ALTERNATIVA AOS CRESCENTES GASTOS COM NOVOS COMPUTADORES EM EMPRESAS E UNIVERSIDADES

Abstract

This paper presents an alternative to the lack ofinvestment in new computers in both private enterprises anduniversities. The servers are updated frequently, but thestations of users do not press the same benefit. Virtualizationcomputing is to harness the spare capacity of servers bygiving a survival to conventional computers. As a case studyused a computer lab at a university where he set up a serverwith the Linux Operating System and Virtual Tool Box,which was created a virtual machine with Windows 2003operating system and software for Windows, was installedonly on clients the Linux OS in text mode and the program tomake rdesktop remote access server. All processing ofapplications used by users of the laboratory are beingperformed on the Linux server. As a result twenty-fivetechnologically outdated computers gained survival, withreduction in hardware cost.Index Terms ⎯  Linux, Virtualization, Virtual Box,Reduction of hardware costs
