Abstract
This work aims to show how a system’sdocumentation, through its visual modeling, can greatly easesoftware’s development and maintenance. Analysts anddevelopers around the world have been faced with theproblem of assuming a system or a module to develop thatdoes not have an adequate specification or a specificationdifficult to understand, without having at least someone tohelp them. In this study, is presented a brief history of thevisual modeling languages’s emergence, the problems thatled to such a need and a general description of the types ofmodeling language existing in the market. Finally, ispresented the analysis of a case study of a project usingUML (Unified Modeling Language), which is a visuallanguage used for modeling object-oriented systems and ithas been consecrated as the standard modeling languageadopted by the industry of software engineering.Index Terms ⎯ Object-Oriented Systems, System’sDocumentation, Software Engineering, UML, VisualModeling.
