Abstract


This text is a result of group reflections, duringthe development of the Learning Management Systemscourse in the Post-Graduate Program in KnowledgeEngineering and Management of the Federal University ofSanta Catarina. Its main objective is to investigate theMeaningful Learning Theory of the American psychologistDavid P. Ausubel, in the context of the LearningManagement Systems (LMS). First of all, it’s developed atheoretical approach introducing some of the paradigms thatsustain the main learning theories and, after all, culminatingwith the Meaningful Learning Theory presentation and somereflections in the LMS universe. The research alloweddemonstrating that the Ausubel’s theory is a road to turnmost efficient the learning techniques used by LMS, in amore effective search for the definition and recognition ofthe student's cognitive styles, in order to make possible thedevelopment of more attractive and personalized onlineteaching tools.
