Abstract


In the current state of knowledge is inevitablethat the teaching/learning process of topics entailed tohydraulics engineering involve the use of different softwares.Such advance embraces problems with degrees of simpledifficulties, intermediary and advanced. This work has asobjective to explore an intermediary problem usually facedby engineers, namely: propagation`s study of a flood wavein a channel using Saint-Venant's Equations, through a freesoftware, Vensim® PLE. It prioritizes an inductive approachin the equations presentation, standing out its physical andmathematical original principles. The same posture isadopted in relation to the Euler's and Runge-Kuttanumerical methods, schemes used by the referred software,as well as in relation to the finite difference method,necessary to approximate the space terms of the equations.As a result, it stands out the simplicity in the problemsolution and the possibility to approach students andadvanced themes.
