Abstract


During the 1980s, the course ofinternationalization for companies in the Brazilianengineering and technology sector was marked by profoundeconomic difficulties that resulted in reduced participationin the expansion of direct foreign investments. In thefollowing decade, commercial and economic liberalizationof the Brazilian economy brought new scenarios andperspectives to national companies, generating businessopportunities that had previously been restricted to thenational market. Inexperience in the international arenaforced Brazilian companies to seek new competitivestandards present in the global economy in this newsituation. The volume of business and applied resources inthis segment stand out when compared to others in theglobal economy and with its significant presence in LatinAmerica. Taking into account these facts and the theme'simportance, this article analyzes the process ofinternationalization for engineering and technologycompanies and presents scenarios and perspectives for thesector.
