O INSUCESSO E ABANDONO ACADÉMICO NA UNIVERSIDADE: UMA ANÁLISE SOBRE OS CURSOS DE ENGENHARIA

Abstract


National and international literaturereveals high rates of failure and drop-outs in highereducation. The present study aims to analyse recent datarelated with failure and drop-out in engineering courses ofthe Minho University by comparing these with national andinternational rates. The results show that academicachievement rates are independent of drop-outs rates. Onthe other hand, students with different characteristicsabandon their courses, at different moments and subjectsand probably by different reasons. Taking into accountseveral agents – institution, teachers and students –thispaper presents a reflection of these results, givenrequirements of the Bologna Treat concerning learningprocesses, assessment and pedagogical practices.
