DORMENTES DE MADEIRA x DORMENTES DE PLÁSTICO RECICLADO E O MEIO AMBIENTE
Abstract
In the railway mean the permanent way is
perfectly characterized, mainly by two of its elements: rails
and railway sleepers. In the beginning the sleepers were
made of hardwood. Even with the gradual replacement for
deforestation wood (eucalyptus citriodora, tereticornis and
maculata) there are still serious difficulties in the Works of
maintenance and replacement of permanent way. With the
passage of time, new options of new way sleepers have been
raised; steel (at end of the nineteenth century), concrete
biblock or monoblock in the middle of the twentieth century
and recycled plastic emerged at the end of the twentieth
century. Each railway sleeper manufactured with different
materials has its features and technical implications,
operational and other environmental impacts. This work is
proposed to make a brief comparative analysis of the
railway sleepers made of wood and recycled plastic,
indicating a different alternative and special attention to
the environment.
