ROOTS OF PROJECT BASED LEARNING

Abstract

Project Based Learning – PjBL is in evidence as
a didatic methodology adapted to develop the competencies
now exiged from engineering courses,in special the
innovator characteristics. This paper presents a definition of
the methodology and discusses the different roots for it. The
first root is epistemological and answer the crises arrived
from the apparently need of more and more specialization
(which means more contents and more time to formation).
The second root is psycho-pedagogical. The third root
converges to the formation through research, and the fourth
is semiological. The fifth root is sociological: we learn
allways in “learning communitiesâ€. The sixth root is found
in the change of the labor market and in the role expected
for the engineer: the new competences are not only a
complement, but a real need for the industry in this new
century.
