AN ELECTRONIC SYSTEM FOR THE SIMULATION OF NEURONAL ELECTRICAL ACTIVITY PROPAGATION

Abstract


This project is devoted to the electronic
simulation of the signal propagation along the cellular
membrane of a neuron, including the synaptic process.
Our research involved a theoretical study of basic
concepts on neurophysiology, as well as on
microelectronics. Our circuit is composed of two parts. In
the first one, we consider the classical electrical model of
the neuronal membrane, based on the transmission-line
approach; and the second one is based on an original
proposition for the representation of the synapses. The
design, implementation and connection of the two parts is
discussed based on simulations. Results point out that our
system is useful for interdisciplinary education.
