Abstract

EDM was introduced in the industry for few
decades, being actually applied in traditional manufacturing
processes such as milling, drilling or turning. However, it
still present some lacks on fundamental understanding of the
process that allow the optimization of the parameters of
EDM in industrial applications. This has been the
motivation of many research studies which are focused on
the material removal mechanism, in order to identify the
main parameters to improve the surface finish, increase the
tools life and the material removal rate. This work is focused
in the plasma interaction analysis with the work piece’s
material. The results and discussions were based on the
surface morphology obtained by EDM single discharge. The
experimental development consisted in the design,
manufacture and assembly of a singular discharger analyzer
machine tool with an ultra-precise numerical control to
maintain the majority operational parameters invariable,
where only the electrical discharge circuit is changed.
