IDENTIFICANDO POSSÍVEIS TENSÕES NA ATIVIDADE DE APRENDIZAGEM DE ALUNOS DE UM CURSO DE ENGENHARIA MECÂNICA: UMA ANÁLISE SEGUNDO A TEORIA DA ATIVIDADE

Viviane C. Silva, Luciano Silva

Abstract

We present a study based the framework of
Activity Theory on the tensions (contradictions) in the daily
activity of a Calculus I classroom. The participants are
following a course in Mechanical Engineering at a private
educational institution in the state of Minas Gerais.
According to the theoretical perspective chosen to develop
the research, human activity is in constant transformation,
driven by internal contradictions. The latter will emerge and
drive the development of the activity through innovation and
change. The study of the elements of tension, which permeat
an activity, is important to understand it and to reflect on
possibilities to change. A questionnaire was elaborated and
responded by students who volunteered to participate in the
research. The results suggest several tensions whithin the
activity on focus and give directions for transformations
which could represent improvement in the teaching and
learning process of Calculus I.
