A CLASSROOM-DISTANCE LEARNING HYBRID NUMERICAL METHODS COURSE

Jose L. Torres

Abstract

This paper describes a hybrid Numerical
Methods course which combines classroom lectures, a
hands-on computer lab and distance learning. The computer
laboratory assignments require the students to work on short
C++ programming projects. An interactive version of the
course lectures is also offered on-line. Student evaluations
require both take-home group projects and individual
computer assignments. The course has been offered in this
form for the last four years. The paper will discuss the
format of the course and the author's observations and
conclusions.
