DESIGN OF A LOW-COST RFID-SENSOR EMERGENCY ALERT SYSTEM FOR SOLITARY OLD PERSONS
Abstract
The solitary old persons with low wages have anaptitude to expose themselves to dangerous situations andnot to receive proper treatments. The objective of thisresearch project is to design a Low-cost RFID-Sensoremergency alert system for older people living alone using awireless sensor network with a RFID tag and a sensor node. The system consists of four parts: RFID tag, ZigBee clientterminal with a sensor node(ZCT), ZigBee repeater(ZR),ZigBee access point (ZAP), and a Server. The ZCT is small, portable and low power. Under emergency situations, ZCTsends emergency signals directly or via ZR to ZAP whichare generated by pushing an emergency button on ZCT andsensing data of a sensor node. The server checks signalsand then sends messages to a 911 center or other rescuecenter through LAN or phone line. The cost of such asystem will be less than $100.
