Abstract


The objective of this work reflects upon theindividual built environment as one of the basis for theconstruction of an inclusive society also the relation betweenthe person and the environment itself with the possibility ofsocial interaction with an aim to the development ofactivities with proper conditions of autonomy andsecurity.The basics of the World Health Organization(WHO) and Brazilian legislation of accessibility: ahandicapped person or handicapped environment? Thepresent anthropometrical standards that incorporate thediversity of human characteristics represent the change ofparadigms as regards to the previous prototype guidingprojective exclusive conceptions. Social responsibility andqualification for the professional duty, engineers, architectsand town planners are faced with the current projectprinciples and the new challenges for the construction of afairer society, for the equality in the opportunity of using theindividual built environment.Index Terms ⎯ Accessibility, Universal Design.
