The inner space of matter

Abstract

This study explores the inner space of matter, itsborders, and the continuous dialogue with the exterior. My experience in the visual arts and, more recently, in the area of glass, has stimulated the research about the potentialities of the inclusion of mixed media in the core of glass, both at the scientific and artistic level. In order to probe what lies beyond the visible, I undertook a period of experimentation in which I tested what kind of matter could be incorporated into glass, which visual and chemical effects could be observed, and what transformation would the material suffer both internally and externally. This insideoutside dichotomy was the target of a subjective/objective multidisciplinary approach that has helped me comprehend that the surface of things isn't merely a ‘skin’ with the function of separating or isolating, but a projection of its interior, which usually suffers transformation according to the surrounding environment.
