CARING FOR THE IMAGE: ABOUT TECHNIQUES AND TECHNOLOGY OF ARCHITECTURAL VISUALISATION
Abstract
Like for many other arts, images are offundamental importance for architecture. The Department ofMedia Studies of the Faculty of Architecture at the DelftUniversity of Technology, deals with teaching and researchin all the available visualization, communication andpresentation media, such as freehand drawing, digitalimaging, photography, film and on the internet andcommunication technologies based media. All along thedesign process, communicating ideas mainly takes place byway of images. They are essential, not only for the designerto develop, explore, visualize and communicate ideas to himor herself but also to communicate them to others. Theymake the design process even possible. A two-fold naturecharacterizes the architectural representation. Except forconveying the qualities of the designed objects it alsoconstitutes in itself an autonomous image and awakensemotions in both the creator and the viewer. New media andtechnology enrich and influence significantly this process
