MODERNISMO COMO FUNDAMENTALISMO RELIGIOSO

Abstract

Modernism, specially the one promoted by architecture and design, based on extreme simplification is usually related to socialism. Socialism by your turn is related, at least since Lenin, to atheism. In fact we have great atheist architects, but here we will try to develop another history. This paper tries to demonstrate how the modern movement was born in religious manifestations, specially by the Shakers from de United States, and their ideas set foot on Europe by the pens of intellectuals such as Adolf Loos. The conformist and ascetic mind necessary to the early XXs man live at the public houses designed by Gropius and company maybe could only exist inside religious fundamentalism.
