A REPRESENTAÇÃO DO FEMININO NO SURREALISMO PORTUGUÊS: TERRITÓRIOS DE CONVERGÊNCIA

Michele Rocha

Abstract

The article studies the representation of the Feminine, considering the particularity of the artistic speech as an integrant part of a heterogeneous reality where word and image converge. By focusing the study on the Feminine problematic - as an aggregating dimension of plastic and poetic visualization and assumed as an essential element to interpret and understand Surrealism - a theory is developed analyzing the specificity in the speech of Portuguese surrealists, centred on the Feminine, surpassing the historical conditionings, the differences between groups and the several theoretical and esthetical positioning. Research confirms a series of constant imageries or convergence territories on Feminine representation, which vary between the evocation of body and psychic integrity on one side and the dissolution and lost of that dimension idealized as being perfect, but also the affirmation of the Feminine as a privileged object of destructive impulses or as an impeller of destruction and death.

Index Terms - Portuguese Surrealism, Feminine Representation, Painting, Poetic.
