DESENVOLVIMENTO DE PROGRAMA LIVRE PARA DIMENSIONAMENTO SEGURO E RÁPIDO DE ESTRUTURAS METÁLICAS: A EXPERIÊNCIA DA FACULDADE DE TECNOLOGIA DA UNIVERSIDADE FEDERAL DO AMAZONAS (UFAM)

Abstract

The man is always looking for the improvementof his accomplishments in a continuous process ofoptimization and efficiency. On this way, and reaching thegoal of supervised training of the Civil Engineering course,it was developed the DIMETAL program of sizing ofcompact elements of steel structures from the Method ofLimits States. This program has a list of rolled steel profilesfor free users` choice and it performs calculations of effortsand verification of compressive strength, tensile, shear andbending by the method of attempts from features ofstructure, spans and loads, stating, also, if the verticaldeformation of the part is according to the recommendationsof NBR 8800/1986. On tests, comparing to the softwareTQS, were found that the DIMETAL program presents goodperformance and wide safety margin, making the sizing ofsteel structures easy, convenient, quick and enabling itsextensive use by students and engineering professionals.Key words ⎯  Efficiency, Optimization, Sizing, SteelStructures.
