Abstract

Hydrographic catchments undergoing nonsustainableagriculture in developing countries generallyface increasing pluvial erosion. The 60,7km 2 Campestrecreek catchment, on the Bauru sandstone (Adamantina soilgroup, São Paulo State, Brazil), is such a case. Stormsgenerally cause surface erosion and disturbance in fluvialconcentrations of transported matter. The paper describes agraduate research project on such perturbations for nutrient, and solids concentrations, on an 1100m stretch of that creek. As main conclusions: the relevance of measuring pollutanttransport due to a storm event, particularly for river waterqualityclassification; its relationship with fluvial flood-ratevariation, and the importance of campaigns to measure theriver-bed solids settling-ressuspension mechanism – as thatperformed in the river stretch during a flood event.
