Abstract

According to the map of violence published in 2011, the number of homicides in Brazil in was 41.7% in 100 thousand, in 2008 the percentage recorded was 52.9% per 100 thousand. With increasing statistics of homicides in the city of João Pessoa, with an incidence rate of 28.04/100,000 inhabitants in 2001 to 51.79 in 2010, this paper aims to spatially locate the murder capital of Paraíba from 2001 to 2010. The homicide data for the study were provided by the Military Police of the state of Paraíba. The tool used for spatial analysis was the software R. The method applied was Gam-K, wich aims to test the hypothesis of randomness or absence of clusters. The study showed persistent spatial clusters in the west and northwest the city.
