Abstract

Glazed façades are common to office buildings around the world. The use of this model, disconnected from culture, climate and urbanism, has brought energy costs implications that were significant after world oil crisis, in 1973. Although the concern with energy savings, there are being built buildings unlinked from the site and surroundings still today. This work analyzed four buildings - two in São Paulo, one in Berlin and one in Frankfurt am Main – aiming to demonstrate the performance of glazed façades in daylit office environments. The approach was made from solar geometry perspective, glass transmission, ceiling height, core position, among others. The results consist in measurements inside the buildings and computer simulation with specific software.

Index Terms - Daylight, office buildings, glazed façades, computer simulation
