Abstract

Floating macrophyte filters, also known as biofilterand eco-filter, are an alternative to treatment ofeffluents that are very used industrially. These filters havemany advantages prior to other treatments, like, no use ofenergy, low cost of installation and maintenance, noenvironmental impact, etc. This work aims the developmentof a project for treatment of effluents from blending in anindustry of alcoholic beverages by the action of floatingmacrophyte filters. Blending is the step in which rawmaterial is mixed and its effluent is composed of hydroalcoholicresidue. This residue requires treatment beforebeing dumped in a river, as the alcohol is harmful to floraand fauna of the ecosystem, and causes the death of manyorganisms, since has high rate of BOD and COD.
