ANÁLISE DA DISPERSÃO DE ESGOTO PROVENIENTE DO EMISSÁRIO SUBMARINO DE SANTOS-SP, BRASIL, ATRAVÉS DA MODELAGEM NUMÉRICA

Abstract

Baixada Santista, more precisely the estuarinecomplex of Santos, has significant pollution due to port andindustrial activities, tourism and also the inadequatedisposal of solid waste and sewage. The main source ofdomestic sewage in the waters of the Bay of Santos is theOutfall of Santos, built to dispose the sewage from homes inthe region as far as possible from the beaches. In order toanalyze the dispersion of sewage into the bay and theefficiency of the emissary, a numerical model of dispersionwas produced, for the indicator bacteria fecal coliform. Thedispersion model run for the years of 2006 and 2007, withcurrents produced by POM hydrodynamic model. Theresults indicated a lower East-West dilution of thecontaminant compared to dilution in the North-Southdirection, a result influenced by the local currents.Index Terms ⎯ Bay of Santos, sewage spreading, submarineoutfall, numerical modeling.
