MODELAGEM NUMÉRICA DO NÍVEL DO MAR E CORRENTES NA REGIÃO SUL DO ESTADO DE SÃO PAULO - CANANÉIA

Joseph Harari, Adelite Floriano Carlos

Abstract

The southern region of Sao Paulo Stateencompasses the estuarine complex Cananeia - Iguape, which has great social, economic and ecologicalimportance. Due to its complexity and size, studies havedifficulties in detailing the processes and keeping itsmonitoring. On the other hand, numerical models simulateand forecast the circulation of this coastal region, allowingdeterminate its characteristics. The Princeton Ocean Model(POM) was implemented, to reproduce the effects of tidesand tides combined with winds and density variations, forthe summer of 2009. The study evaluated the quality ofresults generated by the model by comparing them withmeasurements, in order to validate the model and its outputsanalyses.Index terms ⎯ hydrodynamic numerical modeling, tidaleffects, wind circulation, Cananeia-Iguape estuarinecomplex.
