UMA REFLEXÃO SOBRE O CRESCENTE DESINTERESSE E A CONSTANTE EVASÃO EM CURSOS DE COMPUTAÇÃO E INFORMÁTICA
Abstract
The declining interest in careers related to Computer Science programs by undergraduate students and the increasing evasion rates during the first years of graduation are attracting the attention of worldwide experts. Despite the increasing of employment opportunities in the area, there are fewer and fewer professionals coming to the market and many end up losing themselves along the way. Recent research as in Brazil as in other countries show that a number of factors contributes to intensify this problem, including: low awareness of new students about this area, the stigma of completing difficult courses, lack of legal regulation for the profession and a growing disinterest of women in the field. This article presents a survey carried out in four Brazilian northeastern higher education institutions with desisting students of courses in the area, seeking to identify factors that lead to their withdrawal and possible alternatives to this problem.
