Abstract

Historically, the rain water collected by thedrainage system of highways has been forwarded (willing)directly to the streams (surface water sources). With therecent tightening environmental legislation, the publicbodies responsible for the design and maintenance ofhighways are forced to adjust the release of storm watersprings of the noblest classes. Therefore, the rain watercollected on the roads in the vicinity of Umuarama, constitutes an interesting alternative to mitigate theenvironmental impact in question. So the goal of this study isto characterize the quality of rain water, aiming at drawingup a proposal and design of unit operations to enable theuse of collected water in agriculture, which includedlaboratory tests to determine physical and chemical quality. So we propose units that carry out the unit operationsnecessary to use the water collected by the drainage systemon the basis of water quality characterized.Index-terms ⎯ characterization, storm water, highway.
