DINÂMICA ESTRUTURAL: ABORDAGEM DIDÁTICA COMPARATIVA ENTRE PROCEDIMENTOS NO TEMPO E NA FREQUÊNCIA
Abstract
The response of structural systems subjected todynamic loads can traditionally be evaluated in time domainor in frequency domain. Solution methods based infrequency domain have been in development in recent years.The choice of the method depends on the physical propertiesof the system. In those with frequency-dependent physicalproperties or with hysteretic damping, frequency domainanalysis is recommended. Although time domain methodsare easily assimilated by engineering students, the samedoes not happen to frequency domain methods, especially tocivil engineering students. The goal of this article is tointroduce a didactic comparison between these twoimportant methods to the solution of structural systemssubjected to dynamic loads, in order to make it easier forcivil and mechanical engineering students to learn thissubject.Index Terms ⎯ Frequency domain analysis, Fouriertransform, multiple-degree-of-freedom system, modalsuperposition method.
