Abstract


Microcontrollers are highly integrated andprogrammable chips that usually contain processor, memoryand functions for input and output data. Because their lowcost, microcontrollers have great applications in embeddedsystems, i.e., dedicated microprocessor systems designed forspecify function like data acquisition or machines control.This paper presents an embedded system development withAtmel's ATMEGA8 microcontroller to do and to storemeasurements of temperature and air humidity, and thecreation of an user's interface in Microsoft Visual Studio2008 environment. For the system development, was used adigital temperature and air humidity sensor and an 8Kbytesnon-volatile memory chip EEPROM (Electrically-ErasableProgrammable Read-Only Memory). The communicationbetween microcomputer and embedded system was based inthe serial interface RS-232, and the developed softwareallows the embedded system's configuration and thedownload of the stored data to a file with spreadsheet andtable compatible with Microsoft Excel format.Index Terms ⎯ Digital electronic, embedded system,microcontroller, software development.
