Abstract

One of the main aspects related to the use ofInteractive 3D Virtual Environments (VEs) in education isthe effect that it brings to the Learning Assessment Process(LAP). Beyond the traditional strategies (such as “fill in theblanksâ€, “quizzesâ€, “multiple choice questionsâ€), this kindof environment offers intrinsic features that should beconsidered in the LAP. If VE is to be used as an educationalaid, its potential must be understood to allow it to be fullyexplored. This paper describes the details of theimplementation of an educational game named SherlockDengue. Present version applies a different approach on theuser assessment by monitoring some of his actions duringthe interaction with the environment, instead of presentingobjective questions to be answered while gaming. This workshows that a VE or educational game can benefit from otherresources, beyond traditional assessment methods, to set thegame score.
