Abstract

Chloride was evaluated to establish the range ofthe pollution plume from the Murucupi river Barcarena-PAwhere the leak of red mud with high levels of chloride.Chloride was determined on the Guamá river, Guajará Bay,Barcarena river, Pará river and Arienga river with the aidof a multiparameter probe. In Guamá River and GuajaráBay chloride ranged from 40.82 to 42.12 mg/L. InBarcarena river ranged from 27.84 to 196.0 mg/L, note thatthe chloride increases as it approaches the Murucupi rivermouth this parameter reaches the maximum. In Para Riverranged from 102.1 to 190.3 mg/L, maximum values werefound near the of the Alunorte (aluminum industry) andDendê river mouth, indicating that the effluent may havebeen released directly into the Para river. In Arienga Rivervalues ranged from 113. 9 to 164.5 mg /L.Index Terms - Pollution plume, Red mud, water.
