Abstract

Scientific knowledge is very important incontemporaneity because it is considered impartial andneutral. Scientific methods tend to attend a set of cognitivevalues that gives to science an “absolute truth” statusconcerning a certain phenomenon. Nevertheless, such valuesare interwoven in a social context that other values takeplace and co-happen. In that sense, scientific knowledge isnot just an abstraction of theories and universal laws aboutthe world. A set of social values allows the existence ofscience in the way that it expresses. Values like control andnature domain, utilitarianism, efficiency, among others, stimulate the type of science made, also supplyingtechnological development and the economical system.Technological teaching begins to pursuit such values withthe goal to attend such requirements. It is questioned if othersocial values should not be contemplated in technologicalteaching and in solving the problems in the world that welive.Index Terms ⎯ Educação tecnológica, Technologicaleducation, valores cognitivos, cognitive values, valoressociais, social values, ensino tecnológico, technologicalteaching.
