Abstract

The growing energy demand in the worldcombined with the depletion of natural resources requiresthe search for alternatives that contribute to a sustainableenergy scenario. Contributing to increase energy efficiency, thereby, a low consumption of electricity and a significantsaving in costs referring to the lighting, light emitter diodeemerge as alternative to the electric power sector is vital tothe development of the economy. This work approaches theviability of replacing conventional lamps by light emitterdiode (LED) environments in residential. It traces atechnical and economic obtained through a case study bymeasurements made in residential environment. It describesthe evolution of the lighting system, and how this may havean impact on different aspects that can contribute to thesustainable development.Index Terms - Led. Sustainable Development.
