REAL-TIME SIMULATION TECHNOLOGIES IN EDUCATION: A LINK TO MODERN ENGINEERING METHODS AND PRACTICES

Christian Dufour, Cacilda Andrade, Jean Bélanger

Abstract

This paper discusses industrial applications ofreal time simulation technologies and opportunities thatexist to include them in modern engineering educationcurricula. Real-time simulators are used extensively inmany engineering fields. As a consequence, the inclusion ofsimulation applications in academic curricula can providegreat value to the student. Statistical power grid protectiontests, aircraft design and simulation, motor drive controllerdesign methods and space robot integration are a fewexamples of real-time simulator technology applications tobe discussed in this paper.Index Terms ⎯ Real-Time Simulation, Hardware-In-the-Loop, Power Grid Simulation, Motor Drive Control, Roboticcontrol.
