Adel S. Elmaghraby, Begoña García Zapirainc, Roman V. Yampolskiy

Abstract

This work in progress presents a pedagogicalmethodology for teaching some engineering courses in usingcomputer games and applying critical thinkingmethodologies. These games could be used in theoreticaland practical courses. For example, games can be applied toillustrate some programming techniques and laboratoryapplications in courses such as signal processing and digitalsystems. Additionally, students could develop new games inthe laboratories or as homework to demonstrate the masteryof some techniques relevant for each course. The faculty arepreparing new didactic units mixing the classic methodologywith this new use of playing and developing computergames. Assessment of outcomes for Computer Science andEngineering education will be performed and presented.Evaluations will be obtained from students and faculty oneffectiveness and engagement will compare the academicresults using old and new techniques.Index Terms ⎯ Engineering Education, Games, Tools forTeaching,
