UNIVERSITY LECTURERS´ AND TEACHERS´ COMPETENCIES

Abstract


The higher education inSlovakia has gone through changes in thepast twenty years. The biggest problem isthe under financing of the highereducation. The number of students inhigher education has increased a lotbetween 1991 and 2008. Together with thegrowing number of students we had toincrease the number of lecturers. Thehigher education institutions fill in thepositions with elementary and high schoolteachers and the teachers with loweracademic level fill in tasks as professors.A good teacher should have the followingcompetencies: psychodidactic, communicative,diagnostically, organizational andmanagerial, advisory self-evaluation. TheDepartment of Education of the J. SelyeUniversity in Komarno is currentlyworking on an inside continuing educationsystem especially designed for lecturersthat do not have a teacher´ certificate.After the evaluation of this experiment, wewill prepare the final model of this furthereducation.Index Terms – continuing education,higher education, teachers certification,teacher´ s competencies
