IMPLEMENTING M-LEARNING WITHIN A DISTANCE BASED UNIVERSITY

Abstract


The outcome of this paper is to primarily surveyand analyze student interactions with mobile learning (mlearning)and to reflect on the technological impacts of sucha system's influence on a students learning within an opendistance learning context. This pilot study is articulatedwithin the action research methodology to generate criticalreflection of collaborative, mobile environments for teachingand learning. This study aims to assess the benefits andfeasibility of integrating such a system within the Universityof South Africa’s (UNISA) current organizational structure.The findings of this study may be used as a basis for furtherinvestigation on the challenges that may face the university,if m-learning were to be implemented. It provides thepotential opportunity to re-examine the current print-baseddelivery system and online mechanisms to devise strategiesand solutions to increase the quality of learning within theorganization significantly.Index Terms ⎯ mobile learning, open distance learning
