THE VALUE OF ETHICAL BEHAVIOR: A REVIEW OF BUSINESS ETHICS AWARDS IN AMERICA, EUROPE, ASIA, AND AUSTRALIA

Ewa Rudnicka

Abstract

Over the past few decades, ethics has been a
debatable issue in the public eye that has become
increasingly prominent. Industries are becoming more
pressured to be more ethical. So, what is business ethics?
Can business ethics be rewarded and why? Who gives out
the rewards? These are just a few questions answered by
this paper. Awards for business ethics are presented by
local, statewide, national, and international associations.
Additionally, they could be given to not only corporations,
but also individuals. Among others, such awards include:
the U.S.-based Business Ethics Awards presented by The
CRO (Corporate Responsibility Officers Magazine), BENNY
Awards, and STEVE Awards; the BBB International Torch
Awards; and Russian DARIN Awards presented by the
Russian Business Academy. This paper reviews different
categories of business ethics awards given out around the
world and examines their criteria including several
examples of awardees of a variety of business ethics awards.
